What information we collect

We collect only the information needed to deliver a great learning experience. Here is what that includes:

• Account data: your name, email address, role (teacher or student), and the credentials you use to sign in.
• Usage data: pages you visit, features you use, session durations, clicks, and interaction events � used to improve the product.
• Classroom recordings: when a live class is recorded, audio, video, whiteboard drawings, chat messages, quiz responses, and annotations are captured and stored. Teachers control whether recordings are made.
• Payment information: billing name, email, and transaction identifiers. Card numbers are processed exclusively by our payment provider, Paystack. We never store raw card data.
• Device & technical data: browser type, operating system, IP address, and time zone � used for security and diagnostics.

How we use your information

Your data is used for the following purposes:

• Service delivery: creating and managing your account, running live classrooms, processing enrollments, and enabling course management.
• AI features: classroom recordings and transcripts are processed by our AI engine to generate summaries, search indexes, quiz suggestions, and the Living Replay experience. This processing happens on our servers and is not shared with third parties for training purposes.
• Communications: transactional emails (receipts, password resets, enrollment confirmations) and platform announcements. You can opt out of non-essential communications at any time from your account settings.
• Security & fraud prevention: monitoring for unusual activity, protecting against unauthorized access.
• Product improvement: aggregated, anonymized usage analytics help us identify what to build next.

Data storage & security

Mentu infrastructure is hosted on cloud services (AWS and equivalent providers) with data centers in geographically resilient regions. We apply the following practices:

• Encryption at rest: databases, file storage, and backups are all AES-256 encrypted.
• Encryption in transit: all connections between your browser and our servers use TLS 1.3.
• Access controls: production data access is restricted to a small set of engineers with audit logs on all operations.
• Retention periods: account data is retained while your account is active. Classroom recordings are retained for 24 months after the session date, or until you delete them. You may request deletion at any time. Payment records are retained for 7 years for legal compliance.

Sharing & third parties

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Data is shared with third parties only where necessary to operate the platform:

• Paystack: our payment processor. When you make a purchase, billing details are sent to Paystack under their own privacy policy. We receive only confirmation and transaction identifiers.
• YouTube API: if you connect your YouTube account, classroom recordings may be published to your channel via the YouTube API. This is optional and fully within your control. YouTube's own terms of service apply to content published there.
• AI processing: transcripts may be sent to AI model APIs for generating summaries and search features. These requests do not include personally identifiable information beyond what appears in the classroom content itself.
• Legal obligations: we may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users.

Your rights

You have meaningful control over your data. At any time, you can:

• Access your data: request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
• Correct your data: update your profile information from account settings, or contact support for data held in system logs.
• Delete your data: request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data. Note that recordings shared in a course may remain accessible to enrolled students during any active subscription period, then are deleted.
• Export your data: request a machine-readable export of your account data, courses, recordings metadata, and transaction history.
• Withdraw consent: opt out of optional data processing (analytics, marketing emails) at any time from settings.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in and to understand how the platform is used. Here is a summary:

• Session cookies: essential cookies that maintain your login state. These expire when you close your browser or sign out.
• Analytics cookies: we use first-party analytics to understand feature usage and improve the product. These cookies do not identify you personally.
• No advertising cookies: we do not use cookies for advertising or retargeting purposes.
